It was Preparation Day (that is, the day before the Sabbath). So, as evening approached, Joseph of Arimathea, a prominent member of the Council, who was himself waiting for the kingdom of God, went boldly to Pilate and asked for Jesus’ body.
Mark 15 v 42 & 43 (NIV)
Joseph of Arimathea “waited” for the kingdom to come, he had a focus, a purpose, he was looking to that great kingdom coming, yet he wanted to serve his King and he craved the body of the King and lovingly placed it in the tomb.
At that moment, disappointment and fear must have filled his heart, the one he had hope in, the one who promised so much had just died, at the hands of those whom He had created, but still, he kept focus.
These verses tell us that he 'boldly' went to ask for the body of Jesus; what bravery and certainty that must have taken to approach the authorities who had just killed Him, to ask for His body.
What joy is ours, what peace of mind we can have as we too, “wait” for our risen King of kings and His kingdom.
All earthly disappointments will be over then; no pain, no suffering, no grave, no tomb, but our risen Saviour on the throne where only He belongs.
If you are waiting today, then remember:
Joseph waited 13 years
Abraham waited 25 years
Moses waited 40 years
Jesus waited 30 years
If God is making you wait? You are in good company!
