But all this gives me no satisfaction as long as I see that Jew Mordecai sitting at the king’s gate.”
Esther 5v 13
Here was the social climber Haman who had just been invited to the second banquet with Queen Esther and King Xerxes. This was a huge honour that was reserved to such a select group. This man had been elevated above all other nobles and officials across the Kingdom by the god King Xerxes
Haman gets home, he calls together his wife and friends and then he boasts his vast wealth, his many sons, and the many honours the King had showered on him. A man who wants for nothing, or does he?
Then comes this telling statement: “But all this gives me no satisfaction as long as…”
How would you complete that sentence?
What is that thing that is distracting you from truly rejoicing in the Lord?
If I had nothing beyond the grace that saved me, would I be content?
When I look back, I can see that I have been blessed abundantly—salvation and then blessing upon blessing.
My satisfaction will come only as I look to the Lord Jesus alone with gratitude for His sufficient grace.
