Thanks be to God for His indescribable gift!

2 Corinthians 9v15

We all know that a gift is something that you can receive with great joy. Some gifts are small and within hours our nature is to have moved on and almost forgotten them. Other gifts we receive stay with us and have great meaning to us as we journey through life, that family heirloom or a special gift from your loved one.

In this verse Paul uses the Greek word “anekdiegetos”, to refer to God’s “indescribable” gift of His sinless Son.

This word conveys the idea that the nature of this gift cannot be fully expanded on or made clear to understand fully. It is beyond our comprehension!

The fact that this Greek word only occurs here in the New Testament is significant.

It cannot be compared to any other Scriptural usage, this gift is like something we have never and could never receive in another way. This is an amazing gift, one that money, status or power could get us this, this is the gift above all gifts.

There was a famous philosopher – Ludwig Wittgenstein who once proposed as part of a theory that essentially our imaginations and our realities are limited by our vocabulary, essentially if you cannot put a description to it, it does not exist. So, the more words you know, the more vivid and rich your imagination and world can be….

As we contemplate the vast worth of Christ from God’s perspective, we are often left dumbfounded, but never speechless. Let us all praise God for His incomprehensible love!
