Who do you say that I am?
This question from Jesus is the fundamental question we all must settle in our minds and hearts.
Peter correctly answered that Jesus is the Son of God (v. 16).
But each of us must face into this question, who do we say that God is to us?
Who do we say that Jesus is to us?
When asked in a non-Church setting, what is our first reaction?
To play down our faith or to avoid talking about what God has done for us?
Are we more comfortable talking about the football, rugby or a hobby such as gardening or cycling?
Or do we instantly want to declare the love of God and what He has done in our individual lives? Are we so grateful that we cannot help but talk about Jesus?
As we read this passage, we see a short while later (Acts 2), Peter preached a sermon with the same theme. He presented three arguments that proved Jesus is God’s Son.
What was Peter’s evidence?
1. Jesus fulfilled prophecy (humanly impossible, see v. 29-31)
2. He performed miracles (humanly impossible, see v. 22)
3. He rose from the dead (humanly impossible; see v. 24).
Over 300 fulfilled prophecies.
At least 37 recorded miracles.
More than 500 eyewitnesses of the risen Christ.
This gives us 837 reasons why we can fully trust and follow Christ.
So, be honest with yourself; who do you say He is?
